Surface Finishing & Hardening

To further enhance the quality and performance of our electroless nickel plating and proprietary coatings, we’ve integrated additional material finishing and surface hardening services into our facility. The glass bead blasting services and baking parts in an inert atmosphere are integral to our success as an electroless nickel plating company and provide considerable benefits to our customers. Both supplemental material finishing and surface hardening services can be available upon request but are not required to achieve successful nickel plating or other proprietary coatings. If you want to learn more about how our glass bead blasting and inert baking services set us apart, please reach out to a member of our team today to learn more.

Glass Bead Blasting Services

Glass bead blasting services from Micro Plating can drastically improve material surfaces for high phosphorus electroless nickel plating or other plating services. Metal fabrication can lead to microscopic metal burrs along cut edges and these tiny particles can lead to large-scale failure in the future if not properly addressed. All parts designated for glass bead blasting services are thoroughly cleaned and all rust, oxidation, oil, and grease are removed from the part surface and recessed areas. The experts at Micro Plating use a glass bead peening method that does not have the same abrasive properties as sand-blasting but instead acts similar to a hammer that smooths the surface with incredible consistency without leaving behind embedded contaminants or residue.

Corrosion Resistance

Micro Plating inert baking atmosphere services, like the majority of services offered, meet various AMS, ASTM, and MIL specifications while also maintaining their compliance with RoHS and REACH standards. Inert atmosphere baking can be used before plating and after plating depending on the desired beneficial properties or specific base material. For instance, a low-temperature bake may be required for parts made from aluminum, copper, and certain steel alloys to improve plating adhesion. Whereas a high-temperature bake can be used to add stress-relief qualities to high-strength steel before plating or after plating to increase the nickel hardness. Our in-house inert baking atmosphere services allow us to keep costs manageable and avoid bringing in a third-party service provider to your project.
