AMS, ASTM, & MIL-C Technical Data

Micro Plating supports several technical specifications all while remaining RoHS and REACH compliant. Our RoHS compliance allows us to operate within the vertical framework governing all electronic and electrical equipment while our REACH compliance covers a broader horizontal framework of just about all parts and products sold in the EU. These measures are set forth to reduce the exposure of hazardous substances to both consumers and the environment. Our technical specifications allow us to operate within these set operational standards while specifically focusing on the benefits of each specification. The following offers insight into how each specification works.

AMS 2404

The AMS 2404 is a widely-adapted specification that is primarily known for its consistency and quality assurance by applying uniform electroless nickel plating. It can function across components with complex shapes and geometries all while enhancing the durability and performance of the component. This specification is additionally broadly compatible with a variety of metals making it applicable across multiple industries all while maintaining reliability and high performance. Notably, this standard is widely accepted in aerospace engineering due to its precision and compatibility with complex dimensions.

ASTM B733

The ASTM B733 specification outlines requirements for electroless nickel coatings that are applied to metal surfaces. This specification allows applied coatings to boast a wide range of enhanced properties such as increased wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and hardness. It’s a widely recognized and used standard across the country ensuring that plating work meets sufficient criteria for reliability and quality. A major aspect of this specification is that applicable nickel plating meets safety requirements for functioning in harsh environmental conditions. This is especially important in the aerospace and medical industry where the price for component failure is high.

MIL-C-26074

The MIL-C-26074 is used in military and aerospace applications in which high standards for safety and durability must be met. Its strict standards for electroless nickel plating are used by the U.S. military to maintain reliability after extensive rigorous testing and uniformity. Unlike more traditional specifications, the MIL-C-26074 spec does not require an electric current to deposit the nickel layer. Instead, it makes use of a chemical reaction to ensure precise uniformity in its application regardless of the component’s shape and size. With such a high standard for safety and performance, this specification is used in situations where component failure could have life-threatening consequences.

Comparing Mid-Phosphorus vs. High Phosphorus

The following technical data details how mid-phosphorus and high-phosphorus applications of our services compare to one another regarding a range of different properties. While some of the properties, such as melting point and heat-treated Taber wear index, are generally the same, most are distinct and need to be considered for every application. Reach out to our team for additional information on mid-phosphorus and high-phosphorus applications and how they might apply to your plating job.
