There are certain scenarios where our commonly used electroless nickel plating solutions do not provide the precise qualities a part needs to function reliably. For example, some equipment requires greater lubricity than nickel phosphorus can provide on its own.
To adequately maintain parts that require protection beyond the hardness and corrosion resistance of electroless nickel, we have developed in-house solutions. One of these is known as MicroSlik, which is a proprietary nickel boron nitride coating. The addition of uniformly deposited boron nitride particles allow nickel phosphorus to maintain its exceptional hardness while also reducing its coefficient of friction.
MicroSlik is not the only proprietary coating solution we provide. Our other popular in-house option is MicroLube. As its name would suggest, MicroLube is a high lubricity plating, and its lubricity is achieved in part by including PTFE in its makeup. While an excellent option in many use-cases, MicroSlik is a better choice when your application demands lubricity along with substantial wear resistance provided by medium phosphorus. This is not to say that MicroLube cannot handle wear, but instead that MicroSlik’s uniformly distributed Boron Nitride particles provide more substantial wear resistance.
When you see the term ‘proprietary coating,’ you may wonder whether it adheres to well known specs from the ASTM or Military. At Micro Plating Inc., we are well versed at plating parts to specs that include Mil-C-26074, ASTM B-7333, and more. In addition to these specs, MicroSlik is also a REACH compliant coating. When developing MicroSlik, we knew it was crucial for it to meet these plating specifications and we can confirm that it does. Further, MicroSlik is also REACH and RoHS compliant, meaning it is an environmentally safe way to protect parts involved in manufacturing that could theoretically pose a pollution risk.
Having now detailed some of the primary benefits you can reap by plating your equipment with MicroSlik, we want to mention what sorts of materials this solution is ideal for. We have successfully applied MicroSlik to alloys ranging from steel, including 300 and 400 series stainless steel, to aluminum alloys, and beyond. Another class of metals that are well suited to being coated with MicroSlik are copper alloys.
As you can see by the alloys mentioned, this solution can help you protect relatively cheap base metals in an affordable way.
You can likely envision the sorts of uses you could find for MicroSlik at your company. However, we also want to provide you with examples of where our customers have found this to be a useful high lubricity protective coating.
Manufacturing applications where MicroSlik is an in-demand proprietary Nickel Boron Nitride coating include:
This is not intended to be a conclusive list, but we hope it helps to shed light on MicroSlik’s enormous potential as a low friction coating.
If the information provided above has allowed you to confirm that MicroSlik is the right proprietary nickel boron nitride coating for your equipment, reach out to us for a quote now.
